St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital-Intern
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is a world-renowned nonprofit institution dedicated to treating and curing pediatric catastrophic diseases, particularly childhood cancer, while advancing scientific research and providing care for families at no cost. In the fall of 2024, I had the amazing opportunity to be their intern in the Executive Communications Department.
I edited and proofread a 110-page publication spotlighting 40 St. Jude employees who exemplify the organization’s core values. Mailed to nearly 7,000 employees, the book reinforced internal culture and recognition—and strengthened my attention to detail while working on a high-visibility, institution-wide project.
I developed and managed a biweekly content calendar for the CEO’s LinkedIn, ghostwriting posts that carefully captured his authentic tone and professional image while aligning with St. Jude’s mission. This role sharpened my ability to adapt voice and tone for executive communications, helping engage key stakeholders, donors, and the public effectively.
The goal was to create a visually engaging and informative pre-loop presentation that set the tone for the 2024 State of St. Jude event by highlighting key organizational achievements and reinforcing the institution’s mission to an audience of approximately 1,000 employees attending in person and via livestream. I conducted in-depth research using the St. Jude intranet to source relevant visuals, statistics, and highlights, translating complex information into professional multimedia content that effectively engaged and informed viewers.
I drafted personalized thank-you letters on behalf of Dr. James R. Downing for contributors to the 2024 Blue Sky initiative, carefully capturing his voice while aligning with St. Jude’s tone and values. Each letter expressed genuine gratitude, highlighted the recipient’s innovative contributions, and reinforced the organization’s commitment to collaboration and advancing patient care.
To foster employee engagement and celebrate departmental excellence, I developed a series of 14 appreciation emails sent from March through November. I carefully paired each department with one of St. Jude’s seven core values and crafted messages aligned with Dr. James R. Downing’s tone, highlighting unique contributions while reinforcing the hospital’s strategic vision—including its $12.9 billion, six-year expansion plan—ultimately strengthening internal recognition and team morale across the organization.
I prepared comprehensive briefing materials for Dr. Downing’s presentation to the Comenius Academic Club, including tailored talking points, agenda overviews, and audience insights to ensure he effectively connected with a diverse and highly educated group. This project enhanced my skills in strategic briefing preparation and audience analysis, strengthening my ability to support senior leadership in high-profile presentations.
